Ahson Pai is the founder of BodyFrontier.com, a company that specializes in wearable fitness and wellness gadgets, weight loss, and baby care products and technologies. Today we are interviewing Mr. Pai to gain some insight into what drives the health technology industry, and what the new year will hold for BodyFrontier.com.
Hello again, Mr. Pai. Tell us, if you had to sum up BodyFrontier.com in just a few sentences, how would you describe your business?
We offer technologies that are revolutionary in terms of what they do for an individual’s health and fitness. These are potentially life-changing technologies, and they give people an ability to see their health stats, analyze trends, et cetera, in a way that wasn’t possible as recently as two years ago.
What do you think is driving this technology?
Well, a number of things. First, internet connectivity is ubiquitous through cell phones and smartphones– more people on the planet have access to an internet connection than there are people who have access to running water. Second, the cost of data storage is at an all-time low and continues to drop. Thirdly, the cost to research, develop and mass produce these sensors is quite low. And lastly, the cost of healthcare is trending upward, and it isn’t slowing down.
We are at an historical point in time. As all of these factors intersect, we as a company are solely focused on informing end-users, and providing these game-changing technologies to help people improve their health, and also drop the cost of healthcare delivery. This has to be the most exciting thing about BodyFrontier.com.
As we approach the new year, how do you feel about the future of this technology and your role in providing it?
We expect 2014 to be a blockbuster year in terms of rolling out many new products and technologies. As a recent example, we just rolled out portable smartphone enabled ECG monitoring devices that can be done without requiring a prescription.
How do you think that you are uniquely positioned to be successful in this endeavor?
Having a predisposition to continually research, learn and follow industry developments will be a huge asset. Obviously, analytical, communication, relationship building and problem solving skills are baseline skills to fit in almost any role, but that ability to research and stay on top of trends is a key asset and will definitely come in handy as this mobile health technology is constantly changing. Sometimes you hear of new products every day of the week, and that is not an exaggeration.
It must be very exciting. Obviously, sales are a primary goal for BodyFrontier.com, but after that, what do you see as the purpose of your efforts?
Our number one non-financial goal is to provide information to our customers. So, whether it’s an interview, blog article or when someone calls us up to ask a question, we want to provide them with clear, concise and current information on mobile health technologies. Secondly, and just as important, is responsiveness and a customer-centric focus on order processing and troubleshooting when it’s required. We really see our customers as an integral part of our business community; essential trading partners without whom our business wouldn’t exist. As we take an information and content-focused community approach to building our business, we expect to continually grow the support and response we have seen from the market in such a short time.
