How to Treat the Flu

The flu is one of the most uncomfortable sicknesses we can get. It takes a huge toll on our bodies and makes it hard to even keep our bodies properly nourished. This is why it’s important to take extra steps to care for yourself properly when you’re sick with the flu. Sometimes the step is as simple as resting, while other times it might require a trip to an urgent care clinic. Let’s take a look at some of the things you can do to get through the flu.

Get Rest

This is one of the most important parts of recovering from the flu. You don’t want to overwork your body when it is already in a fragile state and trying to repair itself. Take time to slow down and get some extra sleep. At the very least, spend some extra time laying on the couch with your favorite show rather than hitting the gym or trying to work. Your body needs time and energy to recover, so you need to help it along.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is also key in the recovery process. One of the main reasons people end up in the hospitals or urgent care centers because of the flu is dehydration. When you’re throwing up regularly and having a hard time keeping things down, you need to make an effort to drink extra fluids. If you can’t keep them down and become dehydrated anyway, you will need to see a doctor.

Use Cool Compresses

Cool compresses are a good way to combat fevers as well as nausea. For many people, having a cool compress pressed against their neck or forehead helps to easy the discomfort in their stomach. It can also do away with the uncomfortable, sweaty feeling that often comes with a high fever.

See a Doctor

If your symptoms are excessively severe or persistent, you should probably see a doctor. The inability to keep food down or a high fever that won’t stay away could lead to bigger problems and you may need medical assistance. You can get walk-in care at a local urgent care center, or make an appointment with your family doctor if you feel you are able to wait.
