Indoor Playgrounds Promote Kids’ Physical and Emotional Health

Investing in kids and the community is one of the best things you can do with your money. Whether you’re an individual or an organization, it gives you a chance to shape the future. That’s why indoor playgrounds are popping up in all kinds of locations, from churches to dentists’ offices, at health clubs, recreation centers and even at shopping malls. Well made indoor playground equipment that meets safety standards can help improve kids’ health by keeping them active.

Investing in kids’ health
Parents, teachers, and many others concerned with children’s health have sounded warnings about the lifestyles that encourage sedentary pursuits. Video games, mobile devices and the tv are among the chief culprits that have changed kids’ habits. Instead of an active and healthy lifestyle, they spend their days slumped on the couch with their eyes fixed on a small electronic screen.
The majority, or two-thirds of parents worry about their children spending too much time on electronic devices. This is major lifestyle shift that affects kids’ health throughout their lives. According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, kids who are “active to a healthy level” engage in 25 minutes of high-calorie-burning physical activity at least thrice a week. Sadly, two-thirds of American kids don’t reach this standard.

An active lifestyle promotes good health
The lack of physical activity among children is associated with many diseases and chronic conditions. Childhood obesity is estimated to be around 18.5%: nearly one child out of five in the U.S. is overweight. Conversely, teaching kids good healthy habits will help them throughout their lives. Long term studies have shown that people who were more active as kids and adolescents remain active throughout their adult lives.
Parents can set an example, and studies have shown that kids with active parents will be more active themselves. The American Heart Association’s recommended level of moderate physical activity for children over two is just one hour each day,but even that can be difficult to achieve. While parents can set an example, it’s not always easy to find opportunists for kids to get the exercise they need. Safety, weather conditions and accessibility to playgrounds are all factors that prevent kids from being as active as they should.

Indoor playgrounds provide play opportunities
Recognizing the need for more opportunities for kids to play and remain active, churches, businesses and daycares are beginning to invest in an indoor playground for kids. These can include basic slides and climbing frames, as well as more complex features like hand car rides, trains, basketball courts and foam ball shooters, as well as indoor soft play equipment. These fun structures and rides encourage kids to play, which keeps them healthy. Play also promote kids’ social skills, gives them self-confidence while helping them develop motor skills and coordination.
Indoor playgrounds also have one major advantage, which is that they can still be used when the weather is bad. When they are located in churches, medical offices, and community centers, a visit to the playground can be combined with other errands and events. Kids indoor play structures have to meet stringent safety standards as well, and professional manufacturers make this their highest priority.

Play is essential for kids’ healthy emotional and physical development, but it’s not always easy for them to find the opportunities. Churches, businesses and communities can help kids and their parents by installing indoor playgrounds that meet all safety standards. It’s an investment in the future.
