How to Stage an Intervention for a Loved One

Addiction treatment

Sometimes, it happens that you realize that your loved one has an alcohol addiction or substance abuse problem before they see it. This can be difficult because they may end up offended and upset if you try to address the issue. While there are some great treatment programs like ibogaine drug treatment and 12 step programs, etc., you cannot force your loved one to participate. It is essential that it be something that they decide themselves. The reason is that if your loved one does concede because of your persistence to ibogaine drug treatment or something similar, but doesn’t admit or even believe that they have a problem, as soon as the addiction treatment plan is complete, they will go right back to where they were before. Sometimes, it’s all in the explaining. You can’t just approach them and show them articles about ibogaine drug treatment and except them to realize what’s going on. Here are a few careful measures to take when trying to stage an intervention for a loved one.

Gather a Few
By a few, that’s two or three. You don’t want your loved one to feel ambushed or attacked by a whole crowd of people but you also don’t want them to be able to excuse away your concerns. It’s definitely a lot harder to say that all three or four of you are lying or making things up. Make sure that the people you ask to help you are trusted and loved by your family member and that they care for them in return. This relationship must be established before ever addressing the addiction issues. They have to understand that everyone in the room is concerned with their best interests and have no desire to embarrass or humiliate them.

Have a PlanStart With Love and Care
Once all of you are in the room together where you are going to talk to your loved one, the first thing you should do is reassure them of your love, care, support and commitment to them. This should happen before anything is said. This could make things go either way; one is that it will make the addict suspicious and paranoid but open to hear what this is all about. The other is that their guilty conscience will kick in and they will immediately ask ‘this is about the drinking isn’t it?’ or something to that affect and then will usually set it to try and defend themselves right away. Gently interrupt them and let them know you are not here to find out why, you are only here to help. The truth is, why the problem started and was allowed to grow doesn’t matter to you. This is something that they will need to find out about themselves and will be encouraged to once they get into rehab.

Being able to offer the best ibogaine drug treatments and rehabs is just the beginning. If your loved one is receptive then you will probably need to make the calls for them, tour facilities and set them up to check in. They are going to need to know that you are with them every step of the way and will be a constant shoulder to cry on, ear to listen to and support to lean on during the difficult times. And you can expect difficult times. It may be the hardest thing that you or they have every done but it’ll be worth it in the end.
