Job Stress Can Rob You of Your Energy and Your Health

Work-life balance

You cannot care for others if you are not caring for yourself. You cannot find the right work-life balance if you take your work home with you every night.

Unfortunately, too many Americans forget that they need to pay attention to signs of physical exhaustion and symptoms of being over tired. And while you can endure a few weeks or days of stress during especially busy times at work, it is essential that you pay attention to emotionally drained symptoms and take care of yourself.
If you are in a vocation where you care for others, like a nurse, a doctor, a pastor, or high school youth group leader, you have to be especially careful that you pay attention to signs that might indicate that you are reaching the point of exhaustion. Recovery from severe burnout can be a time consuming task, but it is important that you find a way to achieve your own work-life balance if you want to be able to help others.
Workplace Anger and Workplace Stress Can Lead to an Unhealthy Situation

Even if you have a stressful job, it is essential that you take the time to care for yourself. If your employer does not offer you the help that you need, though, you might need to find resources outside of work. Making sure that you are getting enough rest and exercise, and are eating well, can help, but it can be especially important to make sure that you are taking care of yourself during the hectic weeks leading up to the holidays.
Consider some of these facts and figures about recognizing emotionally drained symptoms and the importance of caring for your mental health:

  • 45.8% of physicians are considered to be experiencing at least one symptom of burnout, according to a recent survey.
  • 25% of both men and women say they have called in sick or taken a ?mental health day? as a result of work stress.
  • 66% of both men and women say work has a significant impact on their stress level.
  • 1 million U.S. employees to miss work each day because of workplace stress.

This is the season when many people look forward to getting together with friends and family for the holidays. It is also the season, however, that if you are not careful you can put your health at risk if you are not careful about paying attention to the warning signs of work and job related stress.
